On September 8, 2007, my daughter Harper, age 10, became the youngest person to ever complete the annual Coosa River Challenge in Wetumpka, Alabama. She finished the event in 5 hours and 45 minutes. Harper ran 5 miles, biked 8 miles through the woods on a mountain bike, rappelled 300 feet down a cliff, and kayaked 6 miles. We trained for the event for several months. We started out the event in last place, but I told her our position would change. A couple of hours into the event, there were stunned bucks in their 20’s and 30’s pulling their bikes over to let a 10 year old girl pass them on the trail.
